Moldblade Develops New Seats for Metros and Trams Managed by FGV

Moldblade has developed the new Model 4300 and Model 4200 seats. These seats will be equipped in the Metros and Trams managed by FGV (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana), both in Valencia and Alicante.

The project was awarded through public tender 21/023 on December 21, 2021. This includes both the manufacturing of the injection molds and the injection of the plastic parts.

Starting from the specifications for adaptation to the current frames and the rest of the technical requirements for strength, ease of assembly, and maintenance, MOLDBLADE developed the designs and performed all the structural calculations and simulations until finding a design that met the required specifications. After a phase of prototyping and functional testing by FGV, the injection molds were manufactured, and tests and minor modifications were carried out until achieving the desired final result.

The project consists of several phases of injecting the plastic parts to supply FGV at a pace according to the capacity to replace the current seats.

The new plastic models are resistant to the highest flame extinction requirement according to the EN-45545-2 standard, one of the most demanding, making them ideal in case of accidents or fires. They are developed with an anti-vandal material and offer greater ease of replacement compared to the current ones.

Thanks to this investment, FGV will be able to:

  1. Eliminate expenses associated with fabric seats, such as the costs of fabric, adhesives, and upholstery services.
  2. Significantly reduce its current expenses for assembly and replacement of seats given their increased durability.
  3. Reduce cleaning times and costs while improving the hygiene of the seats.
  4. Decrease risks in the event of an accident.

Thanks to this joint project between FGV and MOLDBLADE, the railway management company will be able to have a rapid return on investment and cost reduction while providing its vehicles with a more modern, minimalist, and clean approach.
